The word homeopathy
is derived from the Greek homoios meaning "like"
and pathos meaning "suffering".
The therapy is based on the principle "let like be treated by
like", an old medical tenet found as far back as the works of
the Greek physician Hippocrates.
"The results are brought about by administering a substance which
is capable of producing symptoms similar to those which the patient
is experiencing. A remedy becomes homeopathic only when it matches
the symptoms of the patient and creates a reaction.Once the reaction
has begun it continues to stimulate the body's own self-healing mechanism. The
careful selection of the remedy and potency are important aspects
of a homeopathic prescription.
Homeopathy can be used alongside conventional medicine in a diverse
number of conditions, both medical and surgical."
Remedies can also be used to diminish the effect of medical or surgical
treatment, reduce anxiety and improve well-being. The careful selection
of the remedy and potency are important aspects of homeopathic prescribing
